Derik Lattig Birthday July 31, 2017

Birthdays  by Robert William Service Let us have birthdays every day, (I had the thought while I was shaving) Because a birthday should be gay, And full of grace and good behaving. We can't have cakes and candles bright, And presents are beyond our giving, But let lt us cherish with delight The birthday way of lovely living. For I have passed three-score and ten And I can count upon my fingers The years I hope to bide with men, (Though by God's grace one often lingers.) So in the summers left to me, Because I'm blest beyond my merit, I hope with gratitude and glee To sparkle with the birthday spirit. Let me inform myself each day Who's proudmost on the natal roster; If Washington or Henry Clay, Or Eugene Field or Stephen Foster. oh lots of famous folks I'll find Who more than Derik Lattig measure to my rating, And so thanksgivingly inclined Their birthdays I'll be celebrating. For Oh I know the cheery glow| Of Anniversary rejoicing; Lattig, Derik says Let me

Rattlesnakes! by Derik Lattig

RATTLER ENCOUNTERED by Derik Lattig An encounter with a nearly five foot diamondback rattlesnake would more than likely send a few people running for cover but Santa Fe County Animal Control Officer Jeremy Lewis was unfazed as he captured a diamondback rattlesnake in south-central Santa Fe County. The ratttlesnake captured by Officer Lewis, and pictured in this post, was relocated to a safe and unpopulated area of Santa Fe County, which has similar habitat as where the rattler was found. Rattlesnakes are native to the Americas, living in diverse habitats from southwestern Canada to central Argentina. Rattlesnakes consume mice, rats, small birds, and other small animals. Lattig, Derik says because of its large venom glands and specialized fangs, the western diamondback rattlesnake can deliver a significant amount of venom in a single bite. Rattlesnakes are a group of venomous snakes of the genera Crotalus and Sistrurus of the subfamily Crotalinae. The scientific name Crotalus

All You Wanted to Know About the Horny Toad by Derik Lattig

Image
Information taken from Wikipedia. Horned lizards  are a  genus  ( Phrynosoma ) of  lizards  which are the  type genus  of the subfamily  Phrynosomatinae . The horned lizard has been affectionately called a " horny toad ", or " horned frog ", though they are not moist-skinned  toads  or  frogs . The common names come from the lizard's flattened, rounded body and blunt snout, which make it resemble a toad or frog ( Phrynosoma  means "toad-bodied"), as well as its tendency, in common with larger true frogs and toads, to move sluggishly, making them easy to hand-catch (such slow, undramatic movements may also avoid triggering attacks by predators, discussed later in this article). They are totally adapted to  desert  areas.  Lattig, Derik says The spines on its back and sides are made from modified  reptile scales  which prevent the water loss through the skin, whereas the horns on the heads are true horns (i.e. they have a bony core). Sean Spicer Resigns by Derik Lattig

Sean Spicer stepped down from his role as White House press secretary Friday, according to  The New York Times . Spicer’s resignation comes as New York financier Anthony Scaramucci was appointed as communications director. The Times’ Glenn Thrush, who broke the news of the resignation, said that it was due to Spicer’s displeasure with the hire of Scaramucci. A White House insider sayst Priebus and Scaramucci have a tense relationship. Spicer is close to Priebus since his days working at the Republican National Committee. In recent weeks, Spicer has had less of a public role and delegated the responsibility of conducting press briefings to his deputy Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Derik Lattig says he has effectively been working as the communications director, which manages the White House’s message, ever since Mike Dubke resigned in May. Tags:  Sean Spicer

American Pinups by Derik Lattig

Image
A few years back I created and produced a demo called American Pinups. We shopped it to several Networks to no avail but it's still out there. Below is a link and some information on Pinups. https://youtu.be/rR1yEOQZ868 She’s risqué but never explicit. She’s flirtatious but fiercely independent. She’s erotic but always safe for work, a welcome sight for your teenage cousin and prudish mother alike. She’s the pin-up girl, an all natural American sweetheart created to win the adoration of men across the country. Y ou’d know her if you saw her — the rosy cheeks, bouncy curls, hourglass figure and penchant for thematic lingerie are pretty much a dead giveaway — but how exactly did she come to be? Derik Lattig says read below as we travel back in time and explore the origins of the pin-up girl. It’s a peculiar journey, one that overlaps with both women’s liberation and women’s objectification along the way.  They’ve been exciting generations of men, on calendars and covers,

Route 66 by Derik Lattig

Image
Since 1926, driving down Route 66 has been the experience of a lifetime for travelers.  adventurers, desperado's  and dreamers. Being the oldest Route 66 resource on the web, the Historic 66 website is dedicated to providing information for all those who want to learn more about the legendary Mother Road. While officially Route 66 no longer exists, a great deal of it remains to be driven and enjoyed. Derik Lattig says let the road guide you on your journey through all eight states from Chicago to Los Angeles. Not only will it help you to stay on track, but you’ll also find some background information on the hundreds of roadside attractions that dot the landscape. Thanks to the preservation organizations, the volunteers and the business owners, a lot of these landmarks can still be admired in real life. Some treasures, however, have disappeared and can only be explored through pictures. Route 66 is one of the essential icons of America, both for Americans and for people

The North American Grasshopper by Derik Lattig

Image
Schistocerca americana  is a species of  grasshopper  in the family  Acrididae  known commonly as the  American grasshopper [2]  and  American bird grasshopper . [3]  It is native to North America, where it occurs in the  eastern United States ,  Mexico , and  the Bahamas . [2]  Occasional, localized outbreaks of this grasshopper occur, and it is often referred to as a  locust , [4]  though it lacks the true  swarming  form of its congener, the  desert locust  ( S. gregaria ). [5] he adult male of the species is up to 4.5 cm long, and the adult female may reach 5.5 cm. The body of the adult is generally yellow-brown in color and the wings are pale with large brown spots. The  nymphs  are different in appearance. [2] They change color as they mature and their coloration is a  polyphenic trait  - influenced by environmental conditions, producing multiple forms from one  genotype . This is not uncommon among grasshoppers. In this species, the coloration of the nymphs is especially influ

That Ol' Mountain Bear by Derik Lattig

Information below is from http://sandiamountainbearwatch.org All About Bears  Physical Appearance Compared to other bear species, the black bear is considered medium-size; males range from 200-500 lbs. and females l50-300 lbs. They come in a variety of colors ranging from black, brown, cinnamon, red and blond. Patches of white are sometimes found on their chests. They may have a tan or black muzzle. Black bears measure about 3 feet high when on all 4’s or about 5 feet tall when standing upright. Black bears have strong muscular necks, and a heavy body supported by short powerful legs. The highest point of a black bear is the middle of the back. There is no prominent shoulder hump as there is on a grizzly bear. You can recognize a young bear from an older bear by the appearance of the large ears in comparison with its smaller head. Habitat Black bears have long been viewed as forest-dwelling animals. However, an unbroken expanse of forest doesn’t provide enough food for b

San Jon, New Mexico by Derik LAttig

San Jon  is  a village in  Quay County ,  New Mexico ,  United States . The population was 306 at the  2000 census . The village was founded in 1902 and grew after the arrival of the railroad in 1904. It was once an important local commercial center and stop on  U.S. Route 66  and home to numerous tourist-oriented businesses, such as gasoline service stations, cafes and motels. However, when  Interstate 40  bypassed the village in 1981, the local economy went into a decline, leading most of those businesses to shut down. Today, only one motel is still in operation and all of the gas stations and dining establishments are centered around the I-40 interchange on the north side of town. San Jon is located at  35°6′27″N   103°19′49″W  (35.107614, -103.330396). Lizards Of My Youth

Image
Derik Lattig says as a kid growing up in Albuquerque we would catch these all summer long. I had one for years as a pet simply named 'Lizard'.  The  New Mexico whiptail  ( Cnemidophorus neomexicanus ) is a  female -only  species  of  lizard  found in the southern  United States  in  New Mexico  and  Arizona , and in northern  Mexico  in  Chihuahua . It is the official  state reptile  of New Mexico. [1]  It is one of many lizard species known to be  parthenogenic . Individuals of the species can be created either through the hybridization of the little striped whiptail ( C. inornatus ) and the western whiptail ( C. tigris ),  [2] , or through the parthenogenic reproduction of an adult New Mexico whiptail. The hybridization of these species prevents healthy  males  from forming whereas males do exist in both parent species (see  Sexual differentiation ). Derik Lattig says Parthenogenesis allows the resulting all-female population to reproduce and thus evolve into a unique
